The Secret to Success: Sharing Your Metrics

January 7, 2016

You want to get the most out of your workforce, and you know that measurements are the key. You gather the data, run the reports, and have your HR metrics in the palm of your hand. You may be tempted to sit back and bask in your achievement.

Don’t do it.

Metrics do no good gathering electronic dust in a file. They need to be shared with the business to guide and improve workforce strategies, and it’s the job of HR to educate leadership on what metrics are useful and why.

No transparency = complacency

Keeping important information siloed in HR drops a major hurdle in the path of the business. Without the numbers to show if an initiative is effective, it’s easy to become complacent and assume that everything is going well.

Being transparent with your metrics removes blinders and keeps business leadership from making bad decisions.

Show where you are

To move forward, you need to know where you’re starting from. You can use your HR metrics to establish a starting point for future progress.

Once you’ve determined where you are, you can use targets and stretch goals to show where you want to be, and develop measurable tasks to get from point A to point B.

If you build it, they won’t always come

Online dashboards are great tools, but just because you understand a dashboard’s value doesn’t mean people outside of HR will. To prove the business value of your tools, you need to show their results. Sharing and explaining the metrics your tools develop will help the rest of the business understand their worth.

Make a Plan

Sharing your metrics isn’t a one-and-done deal. To make your workforce intelligence an integral part of business decisions, you need to develop a coordinated plan to share your findings with broader stakeholders in a way they’ll understand. Identify who needs the information, set measurable goals, and take your HR analysts and data scientists with you to help explain patterns and scenarios.

Your workforce analytics have the potential to transform your business, but that can only happen if you don’t keep them hidden away. With a will to share them and a plan to make it happen, your metrics can guide workforce strategy and business growth for a long time to come. Contact ZeroedIn today to start on the path to success!
